Vessel Traffic Service

The National VTS (Vessel Traffic Service) System which is implemented throughout the entire country, consists in a set of radar and communications equipment installed in the main ports, as well as at some locations on the Portuguese coast, with the purpose of providing a better maritime traffic control.

In the Port of Figueira da Foz there are two VTS towers installed. Which consists the port and arriving traffic control is centralized in VTS Coastal Station at Paço d’Arcos, Lisbon, in connection with the local port structure.
